Ingredients:

Cheese Filling:

15 oz. (2 c.) ricotta cheese

1 lg. egg

2 c. mozzarella cheese

2/3 c. parmesan cheese

2 tsp. Italian seasoning

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. pepper

Meat Sauce:

1 yellow onion, diced

3/4 lb. ground beef

3/4 lb. Italian sausage

3 cloves garlic

1/2 c. chicken broth

40 oz. marinara sauce

1 tbsp. tomato paste

1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp. sugar

Lasagna:

12 lasagna noodles

2.5 c. mozzarella cheese

Instructions:

1. Combine the ricotta cheese mixture in a bowl and set aside. Meanwhile, boil lasagna noodles until al dente, and drain & set aside to cool.

2. Heat olive oil over medium heat and cook diced onions until softened, about 10 minutes.

3. Add ground beef and sausage and cook for about 8-10 minutes, until cooked through. Add garlic at the last minute. Drain excess grease.

4. Add the chicken broth and use a silicone spatula to "clean" the bottom of the pan. Add marinara sauce, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cover partially and and let sauce simmer gently.

5. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

6. Spread 1 heaping cup of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 casserole dish. Next, add 4 lasagna noodles.

7. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by 1/3 of the meat sauce.

8. Top with 4 more lasagna noodles, 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, 1/3 of the meat sauce.

9. Finish with 4 more lasagna noodles, the rest of the ricotta mixture, and the rest of the meat sauce.

10. Top with 2 1/2 c. mozzarella cheese. Spray foil with nonstick spray and place it spray-side down on top of the baking dish to prevent cheese from sticking to it.

11. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 15 more minutes until cheese is melted and browned.

12. Remove and let sit for 15 minutes prior to serving, to allow the layers to set.
